North Tacoma is a beautiful area in which to live, work, walk and play. The North End features diverse vintage residential architecture, a wide variety of thriving small businesses, shopping opportunities, gorgeous Puget Sound Views, unique parks, highly rated public and private schools and one-of-a-kind restaurants. I have put together a few highlights from each neighborhood. Enjoy your North Tacoma virtual tour!

PROCTOR

With its small town feel and an impressive collection of locally owned businesses, Proctor is one of my very favorite neighborhoods in North Tacoma, in fact it is where I live. Easily walkable, Proctor is home a to a vibrant farmers market, a 100+ year old movie theater, a public library, quaint bowling alley, tempting restaurants, great shopping, a community garden, an historic fire station, two major food markets, and much more. Spend enough time exploring and hanging out here and people will know you by name – it’s just that kind of place! (Check out my blog post on “What to do with your kids in Tacoma: A weekend in the Proctor District.”)

OLD TOWN

Located near access to the water front and Ruston Way, Old Town is a charming area that is home to a replica of Job Carr’s cabin, the first non-native settler in Tacoma. It is humming around here on weekends with walkers, cyclists, and those out to explore Tacoma’s amazing waterfront and its many al fresco dining options. Old Town is the host of the annual Tacoma Old Town Rhythm & Blues Festival, gateway to the 4th of July Freedom Fair and the location of The Spar, a local landmark.

STADIUM DISTRICT

This neighborhood boasts one of the world’s most well-known high schools most famous for its roll in the film Ten Things I Hate About You. The Stadium District offers a notable selection of locally owned restaurants and is home to the annual Dickens Festival and the Stadium District Art & Wine Walk. It is adjacent to our wonderful 27 acre Wright Park and the W. W. Seymour Botanical Conservatory – both worth a visit!

 KelliJo_UPS1UPS NEIGHBORHOOD

The area that surrounds the University of Puget Sound directly benefits from its close proximity to the well-known liberal arts school. Locals enjoy walking through the beautiful campus, listening to the Kilworth Chapel bells chime in the distance, and the constant hum of activity. The university is nestled in a residential area right along Union Ave, a lovely central street lined with trees. KelliJo_6thAve6th AVE DISTRICT

Brimming with world-class restaurants, dive bars, and plenty of opportunities to experience Tacoma Nightlife, 6th Ave. especially comes alive on weekend night. I recommend checking out a concert at Jazzbones or the Tuesday afternoon Farmers Market.

NORTH SLOPE

Classic Tacoma favorites like Frisko Freeze and The Parkway Tavern are located in the North Slope neighborhood, and a diverse mix of people enjoy living close to these local treasures. Tucked amidst grand old homes is St. Patrick’s Cathedral, a notable landmark.

Known for its breathtaking views, West Slope is set against stunning scenery, the Narrows Bridges, Day Island, the sparkling Puget Sound and the Olympic Mountain range, captivating from sunrise to dramatic sunset. Local favorites include Titlow Park, Narrows Marina and the waterfront restaurant Boathouse 19. This is a much sought after enclave for hillside mid-century modern architecture & proximity to the Sound.
